looking for something reasonable but sharp, also where do you get the blades sharpened? Can I use human clippers if i get the blades sharpened, i have an extra set.

Kimberly --- 185 days ago -

I think my husband bought ours from petsmart. They were not expensive at all. Human clippers are not sharp enough to cut a dogs nail, they also could not fit the dogs nail. Also if using human clippers you could split the nail and cause discomfort.

human clippers No,

Hair clippers not nail clippers

none of ur business --- 185 days ago -

oh ok. What kind of Hair clippers you have? brand name i mean. Some of them can be used to groom dogs hair.

~*Funky Munky*~ --- 185 days ago -

conair, just the $25 from wal-mart

itsamystery --- 184 days ago -

Yes you can use human hair clippers. I used to use them on my collie/german shepherd in the summer months to help him stay cooler. Just keep them well oiled

~*Funky Munky*~ --- 184 days ago -

Yeah i just want her to stay cool, plus she looks cute with her hair trimmed down.

miss parker --- 184 days ago -

chas. your best bet is ebay, get a good used pair. i never advise home grooming though. the amount of damage you can cause is pretty bad. nics, cuts, razor burn, staff infection. its not a controlled enviroment and not as easy for owners to do it. best of luck girl.

Never know what to expect from Maggie. If she's not super still, like she is when I blow dry and brush her, I won't go further with it. We both know she's stubborn. I don't plan on trimming her close enough to nic her, like a shaving, just trim. I just want to keep her trimmed up more often. I was thinking same length as the hair on her head cause I don't want to get close to any of that area and need it to be even so it doesn't look retarded. I looked on ebay at the Oster sets. :D Thanks!!

Its easy to groom your dog. Use the guards that come with the clippers. You can't do any worse than someone you pay to do the same thing. They can damage your animal. I always brushed Tigger out before clipping him. Its funny cause he would let me vaccuum the hair on him while clipping. I would buy a new set though so that way you know how well taken care of they were. You can catch them on sale for about $25 with the guards

I used to shave my wired haired chihuahua with people shavers. Poor thing always came out looking like a sheered sheep. not pretty but it worked

Nadine trimmed Maggie, last year, she was purdy!

miss parker --- 184 days ago -

maggies hair is already very short. unfortunatly you can't just 'trim' her. its not possible with her coat and coat texture. its either short or not at all. she will have to be done with a 5 backwards, a 7 or a 9. all three of those hold potential risk. you won't be able to use the clippers you get from a department store such as walmart, none of those guards are short enough.

itsamystery --- 184 days ago -

Funky Munky only you can make that choice

miss parker --- 184 days ago -

mystery, i know the dog and i know chas. seriously, shut up. the clippers from walmart are not what she would need, this isn't a friggin shitzu or something we are talking about you idiot. do you realize that? i am going to just text her, cause your annoying the p*ss outta me.

Ninja the bingo wings crusader --- 184 days ago -

HAH!

Viny --- 184 days ago -

Seriously? A pissing contest over whether or not some one is capable of grooming their dog or which clippers are acceptable?

miss parker --- 184 days ago -

no viny, i know the dog. and i know the clippers with tne guards. it would be a waste of money for chas. its not about her ability or not. its the plain stupidity of this mystery broad, she's clueless, thats annoying to me. but see it however you want. your approval is far from my list of desires.

~*Funky Munky*~ --- 184 days ago -

grooming their dog or which clippers are acceptable? I had already sent an IM and asked Nadine's opinion. But I am not always online for a reply either :( I don't know anything about hair clippers other than I cut my sons hair and it works! Maggie's would be like shaving off a thick beard 100x, so that's why I asked about the clippers, because i don't want to hurt her. Yes, I could take her to get her trimmed. But as much as I want to keep her trimmed in the summer, it's not feasible. She has developed excessive dryness and "hot flashes", this is in her best interest.

Its too bad that when a person asks a question someone has to come on and be rude to whomever answers.

There was a really good set on CYS a while back that Lisa girl was selling for 200. I have shaved a shitzue and cockers with walmart clippers, the cheap as$ plastic guards do not work for anything. Petsmart has a nice set with all the medal blades and you can resharpen them as needed. Best set I have had yet, and only spent 120 for them.

turd_ferguson --- 184 days ago -

I have shaved shit and cock with walmart clippers HAHAHAHA

miss parker --- 184 days ago -

see, and that's the thing. she NEEDS the metal blades for the breed she has. she can't buy a set for $25 and groom her dog. the coat length and texture won't allow it. that's why i got irritated, its one thing to answer, its another to answer with no actual knowledge. i am against home grooming. but if you want to, by all means do so. but attempt to do it correctly. and on some breeds, it truly is a high risk of causing damage because the shortness of the blade necessary. and no, its not just as likely to happen with a professional as it is at home.

nice lady --- 184 days ago -

Some people do not care if their dogs look a little choppy just need it done. Medal blades are the way to go, but they cost a lot more money. I spend anywhere from 10 to 15 for new blades when mine are wore out. But you can sharpen them 2 or 3 times before the teeth start going out. I have seen some of the BEST grooming job come from at home groomers, just because they do not own some fancy shop does not mean they can not shave a dog.

~*Funky Munky*~ --- 184 days ago -

i am not some people and i wouldnt put her at such risk if i didn't believe i was capable of doing so, nor will i continue to attempt to trim her if it scares her to the point she moving too much and puts her at risk for getting nic'd, that has never been my role in her life Leah there is no sense in debating or being confrontational with Nadine to make a point to me or anyone. I am not trying to be mean but her opinion on the matter, matters most.

turd_ferguson --- 184 days ago -

who cares.

nice lady --- 184 days ago -

Leah there is no sense in debating or being confrontational with Nadine to make a point to me or anyone. I am not trying to be mean but her opinion on the matter, matters most. I was not being confrontational I was saying anyone can cut a dogs hair and their is nothing wrong with it. It really is not that hard my 7 yr old can do it. I is just knowing what clippers and blades to use for the length you want.

~*Funky Munky*~ --- 184 days ago -

if you don't why are you even commenting lol

miss parker --- 184 days ago -

i think with the right tools you can accomplish what you need to chas. and i know you would be very careful. if not, you know i would have already voiced my opinion privately through text to you. not on here. anyway i already told you what blade and clippers. good luck girlie. if i had more free time i would help. but you know you can call or text and i will help as much as i can.
