My pup was spayed on Tuesday. She seems to be fine, but her stitches aren't holding the skin together. I can see a little bit of the "pink" skin. It is raw on those parts ... and I'm not sure what I should do until I can take her to the vet in the am.
By pink do you just mean the inner layer of the skin? I would just keep it clean the best you can until the morning. That is, as long as her stitches don't come completely out and all other kinds of nasty
There are only 3 stitches on the outside. It sort of looks like the whole line is opened and scabbed a bit. But the pink is the inner layer of skin. I just don't think it's normal they they look opened.
I called the emergency pet line. They said the same thing JM. I'm just nervous I'm going to wake up to a bleeding dog.
i would watch it constantly, same thing happened with a dog i used to have.. and i had to take her in and give her antibiotics and make sure the wound was clean, because they wont restitch it
Glad you still have humor even during your time of panic lol
lol ... i thought for sure they'd have something to say.

OMG! It's scary looking, and I am terrified it's going to open.
She either sleeps at the foot of our bed or in her kennel. I'm scared she's gonna pick at it ... because if I cut myself while shaving, she has to lick it. I know - disgusting, but she can't help herself.
They will tighten the stitches up, my GSD ate her's out and her intestines were dragging the ground, after lots of antibiotics and 2 different surgery's she was fine, all my dogs now wear a e collar in less I am watching every second. She was out side for 5 mins. and it was the nasty thing I every had seen in my life.

She's going to eat you in your sleep one day lol..... I would try getting her to sleep in her kennel but keeping the kennel in your room. That way you can hear her if she starts licking and such. I would be afraid of accidently kicking her or her stitch getting caught on the covers at night
One thing you can do is pull the stitch tight and put a piece of tape to hold it, I did that with another dog. The vet told me to do the same thing.
I can't pull it, they are knotted. and there are only 3 - I think that is weird.
I am afraid to touch it. I think any pressure on it will open it more.

wtf

Good call.
I won't wake up if she is licking ... I wish I had that damn collar.

they tied each stitch? WTF vet did you go to. I have not seen a spay done like that in years. My vet loops through and leaves a loop at the end I pull that tight and put tape on it.
If you have gauze and medical tape try covering the area with gauze so she doesnt have instant access since she's a licker
That's a really good idea. I hope the tape sticks!

I hope she doesn't have long fur! If you want to take the very proactive approach then just hogtie her feet so she can't move until the morning lol

I just spent the last two hours downloading the most horrific, vile, disgusting porn on the internet and suddenly reading that sentence just pushed me over the edge. I'll never be clean again, never.
So. Who wants links?

haha
She has short fur and she still shaved up, but I think I'm going to wrap it all around her back and tummy. I hope it doesn't bug the stitches too much.
They will tape each one then, they can not restitch as it causes more problem but they can pull it up and tape it, it does not hurt the dog at all, if it is open then there is extra room to pull them. What vet did you use? Most vets no a days do a inside stitch that never needs attention.
