I was just trying to make a point here...my first post, to me, made me sound like a total douchebag! I don't care what rank anyone is, when we meet outside in the real world, your rank isn't on your t-shirt, so why should it make a difference? Is why I love you. I dont see an issue with it as long as the friendship stays outside of work and dosent interfere as far as favoritism 

my husbands best friend went green to gold and he is now the Cpt of the company he is in. Their friendship has not changed because of the change in rank.
